Family Photography at The Old Mill | Fort Worth Texas Photographer


As a Fort Worth, Texas photographer who loves capturing real, joyful moments, I’m always on the lookout for timeless locations — even outside the DFW area. For this recent candid family session, we took a little road trip to the gorgeous and historic Old Mill in Little Rock, Arkansas — and let me tell you, it was pure magic.


The Dick family was full of energy and love, and this setting offered the perfect blend of playfulness and peaceful beauty. From little ones running across stone bridges to sweet snuggles under the trees, this session had all the storytelling charm I adore.

Why The Old Mill is a Dream Location for Photos

If you’ve never been, The Old Mill is more than just a pretty backdrop. Here are some fun facts that make it a gem:


🎬 Hollywood History: The Old Mill appears in the opening scene of the classic 1939 film Gone with the Wind. It’s one of the few remaining structures from the movie — and a must-visit for film lovers!


🏡 It’s Not Actually a Working Mill: While it looks like it came straight out of the 1800s, The Old Mill was actually constructed in the early 1930s as a tribute to Arkansas pioneers.


🎨 Every Detail is Art: The stone bridges, iron gates, and even the fallen “logs” are handcrafted from concrete to look like wood — an art form called faux bois (fake wood), created by Mexican sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez.


🌸 Seasonal Beauty: From spring blooms to fall leaves, this location offers gorgeous scenery year-round — perfect for every kind of session.

The Perfect Spot for Families


Kids love exploring the little paths and hidden corners, while parents appreciate the timeless, natural setting. Whether we’re playing peek-a-boo under the trees or snuggling on a stone bench, every spot offers something unique. This session, I let Big Brother pick out his favorite spots and choose some poses for the family. He was so excited and ready to step into that In Charge role and it made the session extra special for him, which showed in his big excited smiles!


This session was filled with laughter, twirls, and real connection — exactly what I aim to capture with every family I photograph.
